Personality[]
The Emo-Gothic mysterious character of the series, she has high standards for people and seem quite closed off at first, but as we can see in the story, she can be as happy, open and cheerful as everyone else.
Her personality, and love life, is marked by the death of her first boyfriend named Jason. As it is told in the story, she lost him to an aggressive form of lymphoma only 3 months after the beginning of the relationship, leaving him perfect in her mind since its usually after 3 months or so that you discover certain things you need to tolerate about your partner according to her sayings in Better Days. This is the main reason why she tends to be choosy about her partners and is still waiting to find the right one for her, someone who would make her satisfied and fulfilled as she told Fisk when they met randomly at some point in the series after they parted.
She is portrayed by some as someone who sleeps with everyone, having multiple lovers at once before meeting Fisk and Aron later on in the series such as it is told in her biography
Biography[]
Beth appeared in chapter 14 of Better Days, was living with other girls in college like Lucy Black and Rachel. She was just typical Emo-Gothic cat. Beth once said she hates people because back when she was in high school, she fell deeply in love and lost her boyfriend Jason. Beth didn't wanted to ruin her memory of Jason, by getting into new relationship. Then when she meet Fisk Black; Lucy's brother, she warned him about Rachel and that's when things got interesting. She and Fisk weren't really boyfriend and girlfriend, they were more like f*** friends or lovers. Sadly Fisk went to the army, Beth decided to go back to dating, she met Nicholas and Aron. They both knew what she was all about, but when she heard Fisk was in big trouble, fearing that he might be dead. She ended things with Nicholas, when got tired of her having more than one lover and worrying about Fisk being dead or not in the Gulf War. Luckily Fisk survived and came back home and Beth had a call from her big sister Desdemona from New York City about her art as it being displayed in a art gallery. While enjoying their time at New York City, Beth asks Fisk to stay with her when he's done his second tour in the military which he promises her with a kiss. But once more for disappointment for this cat, is Fisk found a new career but he can't describe what it is, so that ends their promised, he comes to see her once in while.
Beth would eventually move on from Fisk, seeing he would end up marrying his childhood friend Elizabeth and eventually having three children together being Janie, Thomas, and Abigail. As for Beth, she ends up getting together with Aron (who was Tommy's roommate in college) to she buys a yacht and they decide to sail around the world for a bit as shown in the end of Better Days.
However in Original Life, eventually sometime in the mid to late 2000s (probably somewhere in between 2008-2010), Beth and Aron decide to stop for supplies at a community in Florida called South Haven, which they both notice right away that almost everyone in the community is naked and causally going about their business as usual. They come to discover that South Haven is a nudist community that been around since the 1920s, and they also meet a dog girl named Trixie who been a resident of the community as she was born and raised there. During this Aron wants to settle down as he gotten tired of sailing for many years, however Beth doesn't want to settle down yet. To make things worse, Aron then grows distant from Beth as he ends up meeting a cute transgirl named Audrey who he starts a relationship with. This in turn makes Beth ending her relationship with Aron and once again she becomes single and starts to live with Trixie as a roommate.
During this time when living in South Haven, Beth experiments around in her late 30s, as she has sex with many men in the local area (as shown in the adult comics Beth Leased, and Her Type). These men she has a sexual relationship often do BDSM activities with Beth often involving her having hands grasping her throat, having bottom whipped or smacked, and so forth, this shows Beth at first not enjoying it and then later liking it after many times. Beth also ends up having a sexual relationship with Trixie (as shown in the comics Two Girls Kissing in the Shower), but they never make it romantic as simply put Beth doesn't really want to have a serious relationship.
But this changes in 2012, when Beth meets Trixie's boyfriend Ty (in the comics Force of Nature), who is a tall muscular cat with blond hair, who is also 10 years younger than Beth. Ty and Trixie have a open relationship which they both seem to not mind. This results in Beth and Trixie and Ty having a threesome that same night, to which Ty notices how attractive Beth is for someone who is now 43 years old. As such Ty ends up waking up Beth and has sex with her while Trixie is asleep next to them in bed, and furthermore Beth was not on birth control and ends up getting pregnant by Ty. The following day Beth informs Trixie about what happened last night, to which Trixie isn't mad and is not even surprised either, to which Beth tells her she is not on the pill to Trixie's shock seeing Beth is over 40 years old. After that Beth decides to leave and head to her yacht to be alone mainly to stay away from Ty, only for Ty to notice her and come onto her boat much to her annoyance. Ty would then once again have sex with Beth once again without her consent and then once again knocks her up further.
After that happens Beth tells Trixie what happened and she is mad at Ty for the fact he did that. As such Trixie decides to end her relationship with Ty and Beth is now pregnant at 43 years of age, which is very concerning for herself as she worries if her child will be either disabled or not, as well as how risky pregnancy is for a woman in their 40s. During this time Beth meets her sister Desdemona after many years, and tells her about her pregnancy to which Desdemona tells her that she should keep the child as she would have some meaning in life saying,
"What do you want to be in 10 years? The same kind of woman? Doing the same stuff just ten years older?"
"The older you get, the harder it is to be 20."
Taking her sister's advice, Beth keeps the kid and ends up what we can assume is an okay pregnancy despite being 43, and we see Beth now with a 2 year old son in 2014 who is named Jason, which Beth named after her first boyfriend Jason from all those years ago. As for Beth's future on whether or not she intends to get with a person permanently like Ty, as well as the fact if Beth intends to get back in touch with her friends Fisk, Tommy, Lucy, and Elizabeth, it is unknown. She certainly did have a child later in life than her friends did, so being a mother in her 40s and 50s will pose a lot of challenges. But we can say that Beth finally has a good future ahead of her from the looks of it.
Beth decision to keeping her child, resulting in her adorable son Jason two years later. Beth is shown to feel finally some accomplishment at something in her life.
Relationship[]
Fisk Black (Ex-Lover) []
Met Fisk when she was 18 in her freshman year of college at University of Georgia, which she met Fisk when he came over during break from military school to visit Lucy. During his stay, Beth and Fisk fell in love and were happy with each other. However due to Fisk often being away due to military training and later being sent to fight in the Gulf War, this made Beth have short brief relationships with other men (none of which were romantic). Eventually Fisk would return from the war and Beth would tell him that she will stay with him forever after he finishes his second tour, however this unfortunately doesn't happen as Fisk get's a government job in Washington D.C. meaning that he would be away most of the time and it be not fair to Beth. As such Beth would end her relationship with Fisk and even many years later still has feelings for him as Fisk is essentially "the one that got away". As for Fisk and Beth still keeping in touch is unknown, it is possible they might do so over Facebook, but it is more likely that Beth has simply decided to move on and not talk to him ever again. It is possible they could end up meeting again in the future which would be cool to see Fisk seeing her son Jason for the first time.
Lucy Black (Best Friend*) []
Lucy was Beth's roommate in college, which they became friends due to them having each other's backs. However when Lucy met Tommy who was Rachel's boyfriend, she fell in love with him and he came to realize that Rachel was simply using him for sex. After Rachel left, Beth would be introduced to Tommy's roommate and friend Aron who the two end up later having a romantic relationship during their last year of college. After Better Days concludes it is unknown if Beth even still keeps in touch with Lucy, but they both live in Florida so it is very possible seeing in the comic As You Like It (which features Trixie as the main character) we see Trixie leave South Haven and end up going to the town where Lucy's son Leo lives at, which implies that Beth must live very close to Lucy without realizing it. Perhaps Naylor will make a future comic showing Lucy and Beth bumping into each other after many years and then decide to catch up.
Jason (Former Boyfriend) (Deceased) []
Jason was Beth's first boyfriend whom she dated for 3 months in her freshman year of high school. However it would not be long lasting as Jason would die from lymphoma and since then Beth has never been really the same since seeing she never feels comfortable having another long-lasting romantic relationship with another person (Fisk was the closest she ever got) and has been single since. However we know Beth still loves Jason and misses after many years, seeing she ends up naming her son after him in his honor and memory. Even though we do not know much about who Jason was as a person, we can tell he must of been a very kind and loving person to Beth due to her memories of him.
Aron (Ex-Boyfriend) []
Was introduced by Tommy during college, eventually Beth and Aron would hit it off and end up in a romantic relationship during senior year of college and eventually would get a yacht and sail the world together until the mid or late 2000s. After settling in South Haven, Florida, Aron and Beth goes their separate ways seeing they feel they simply cannot continue being together due to having different things they want in life.
Beth does probably still miss Aron somewhat, but in Force of Nature she has an encounter with him (seeing he has sex with Trixie while Beth hears him outside the apartment) to which she gives an annoyed and somewhat pissed look at Aron to which he leaves afterwards without having a big conversation. So it more likely Beth just wants to move on and forget about Aron honestly.
Nicholas (Ex-Lover) []
Was a guy she was dating during college, during the time when Fisk was in military. He was a bartender and met Beth due to her having very noticeable boots (not joking there is a comic about it) where they hit it off. However there relationship never was romantic despite Nicholas wanting it to be so, and he ends up becoming very annoyed by Beth having feelings for Fisk and decides to break it off when Beth is worried that Fisk might of died in the Black Hawk Down incident in Somalia. Thankfully Fisk did not die and came home alright, but since then Nicholas has never been seen since. It is without a doubt that Nicholas has by this point long since moved on from Beth as had she, seeing he was simply just another guy she had a past relationship in her life.
Trixie (Former Roommate)[]
Trixie was for a few years Beth's roommate when living in South Haven, Florida. They had a sexual relationship that was mostly that of friends with benefits. They do indeed care for each other like how friends typically would, but Beth doesn't have any romantic feelings for Trixie.
Ty (Complicated)[]
Ty was formerly Trixie's boyfriend until 2012, when Ty met Beth and knocked her up resulting in her giving birth to his son Jason. However Beth's relationship with Ty is not really well known, it's nothing really romantic either as it more like a person whom Beth has sex with from time to time. It is unknown at this time if Ty is active in his son's life.
Trivia[]
- According to one Twitter made by Jay Naylor back in 2020, he stated that Beth has a second name, but he cannot remember it however. This could be more of a Mandela effect though over someone misremembering something in the past relating to Beth.
- According to the Wikifur page of Better Days (specifically the storyline), it says that Beth and Aron have a daughter named "Lilith" in 2004-2005. However there is no proof or evidence of Beth ever having a daughter or child before Jason (which was in 2012), it is possible that someone had a Mandela effect and misremembered something about Beth having a daughter. The common theory is that the Original Life character Stacy Hardy (one of Janie's best friends) was mistaken as Beth's daughter due to the fact Stacy is also goth just like Beth, however Naylor would state that Stacy is of no relationship to Beth whatsoever. This could definitely explain the confusion.
- Beth and Desdemona were named after the characters from the Shakespeare play Othello, which Naylor himself would confirm to be true in a Twitter reply back in 2020.
